Why did you join Speech and Debate? 
A friend of mine, Saige, made me come and I discovered it was fun. On top of that, you get awards and it looks good on applications and resumes.  
What is your favorite Speech and Debate memory? 
At both Regionals and the National Qualifying tournaments, I didn't really think I would do really well, but I ended up not just placing, but winning at regionals and qualifying for nationals. 
What is the hardest part of Speech and Debate? 
The hardest part of speech is having to cart my poster boards for expos all over the school and onto busses.  
What do you do for fun? 
When I have time I like to read, draw, play video games, and D&D campaigns.  
What other extracurricular activities are you a part of? 
  • Violin/Orchestra 
  • Robotics and Technology Club 
  • Fishing Club

Linh Truong   Team Member since 2017   2018 National qualifier in Lincoln-Douglas Debate   Outstanding  Distinction rank  with National Speech and Debate Organization   Why did you join Speech and Debate?    It seemed like a great opportunity for another extracurricular activity and some of my friends did it (Baylee and Eric). I stayed because I love all the people and enjoy doing it.  What  is  your favorite Speech and Debate memory?    There are a few. I loved beating Q at the ninja game at Regionals. When I got 1st in Novice Impromptu it made me proud (and Baylee). I really loved getting to debate syrup sandwiches that one time. 2018-19 Tournament 1: Pasco, November 3

With only eight competitors for the first tournament of the year, Chiawana was still able to capture the first place trophy for small teams at the Pasco High School Tournament. Congress Captain Linh Truong led the team with a first place in Open Informative Speaking, second in Open Congressional Debate, and second in Open Program Oral Interpretation. Debate Captain Saige Johnson followed with second place in Big Questions Debate (with partner Amy Walker) and third in Open Expository Speaking and Open Editorial Commentary. We also have some very enthusiastic and talented novices. Amy Walker took first place in both Novice Editorial Commentary and Novice Humorous Interpretation. Alison Pettey was first place in Novice Tall Tales, and Briana Castro took first with a perfect score in Novice Dramatic Interpretation.
