2018-19 Tournament 3: Chiawana, December 1
It's always great to
host a tournament. Even though we come early to set up, we still get to sleep
later than when we travel. My assistant coach/daughter, Sara, and I both logged
over 16,000 steps as we hosted 15 schools, over 100 students, and 50 coaches
and judges. As always, people love being at Chiawana.
Even with team members
out with illness, Chiawana had a great tournament, picking up all three team
awards: Speech Sweepstakes, Debate Sweepstakes, and Large Team
Sweepstakes. Individual finishes are as follows:
Big Questions Debate: Saige Johnson and Amy
Walker, 2nd
Novice Congressional Debate: Briana Castro, 1st;
Victor Soriano, 3rd, Top Presiding Officer
Open Congressional Debate: Linh Truong, 1st
Novice Dramatic Interpretation: Briana Castro,
1st (perfect score)
Novice Editorial Commentary: Amy Walker, 1st
(perfect score); Alison Pettey, 3rd
Novice Informative Speaking: Amy Walker, 1st
Novice Humorous Interpretation: Amy Walker and
Alison Pettey, unbreakable tie for 1st (perfect scores)
Novice Tall Tales: Victor Soriano, 1st
Open Dual Interpretation: Audra Totten and Linda
Corona, 2nd
Open Informative Speaking: Linh Truong, 1st
(perfect score)
Open Humorous Interpretation: Audra
Totten, 2nd
Open Program Oral

Select team members will
compete in the Conway Classic at Gonzaga University on January 4-5; the entire
team will compete at Toppenish the following weekend.
