Why did you join Speech and Debate?
I joined speech and the prompting of my best friend. After just hanging out in the room for freshman and sophomore year, he finally talked me into competing at a small competition where I fell in love with speech and debate.
What is your favorite Speech and Debate memory?
My favorite speech and debate memory has to be from the bus ride up to state. There’s nothing particularly special about the memory other then it makes me happy. I was surrounded by people I call my friends and we were arguing about pointless things and making jokes and having a blast together.
What is the hardest part of Speech and Debate?
I think hardest part of speech and debate was getting over the butterflies in your stomach. Before every round I’d get nervous about how I’d perform and how it would end, and that always led to me stuttering or doing worse than usual. I learned to get through those butterflies, but I still feel them before every round.
What do you do for fun?
In my free time I enjoy working on the farm with my dad. I love taking care of animals and engaging in all the activities of agricultural life. I raise pigs myself and I love every aspect of taking care of them. I also love to travel and explore, every opportunity I get i like to go out and see new places.
What other extracurricular activities are you a part of?
Besides speech and debate I am I’m FFA, which stands for Future Farmers of America. It’s a club where I can use my agricultural knowledge and my speaking abilities in the same place. Speech and debate taught me how to speak well in front of people and how to be a dynamic speaker, and because of that I have the opportunity to succeed in more areas in FFA.
