Fundraising our way to Fort Lauderdale

This is NOT the fun part. With ten national qualifiers--and possibly some alternates being called up--coaches, and judges, we need to raise approximately $20,000. We'd like to have the first half of that by the end of April, so we can buy plane tickets. But we're doing our best to make this fun! Thanks to the nice people at the GESA Carousel of Dreams, we are holding an evening of FUNdraising on Monday, April 23. $20 gets a ticket for ages 13 and up; it's $15 for ages 3-12, and under age 3 is free. What does that get you? A light dinner, unlimited carousel rides, games, face painting, performances by national qualifiers, alternates, and state placers, a split the pot, and a silent auction. Auction items so far include a one hour massage (Our massage therapist is the BEST! She keeps us going after long bus rides.), golf package for four, 20-lb weighted blanket, gift cards, and more. I stayed because I love all the people and enjoy doing it.  What  is  your favorite Speech and Debate memory?    There are a few. I loved beating Q at the ninja game at Regionals. When I got 1st in Novice Impromptu it made me proud (and Baylee). I really loved getting to debate syrup sandwiches that one time. 2018-19 Tournament 3: Chiawana, December 1

It's always great to host a tournament. Even though we come early to set up, we still get to sleep later than when we travel. My assistant coach/daughter, Sara, and I both logged over 16,000 steps as we hosted 15 schools, over 100 students, and 50 coaches and judges. As always, people love being at Chiawana. Even with team members out with illness, Chiawana had a great tournament, picking up all three team awards: Speech Sweepstakes, Debate Sweepstakes,  and Large Team Sweepstakes.
